Hi i am mixing with waves plugins and using logic. am mixing linkin park style music and im trying to get a good mix maybe similuar to theres but our music is completely different but i love there mix, For lead vocals im using sondelux going into a great river through a distressor on 6:1 mode kinda fast attack slower release. vocal sound is great im using a WAVES c4 on the vocal channels to further tweak them out and reverb and delay on send fx,. is there any special things i should know about mixing these types of projects? Guitars im doing with a line6 pod directly and layering.

Well you are most likely comparing your mix in the computer to Andy Wallace mixing on an SSL and printing to analog tape. For that linkin Park sound first you need to play in a similar style, but a couple things to try:

Your distressor should be plenty of compression, but try a slow attack and fast release instead and maybe go up to 10:1. That baby will knock 20 dB off the lead vocal with out any fuss. Try getting rid of the C4.

Drums are most likely layered with samples.

Some people like recording with Pods, I think they butcher records. If you have access to a real amp try using that. If you must use the pod, be careful about laying too much, they will start to crowd up a mix and smear the imaging of the mix really fast. Try to go easy on the overdrive. Pan the guitars wide out of the way of the vocal.

Do a lot of EQ scooping so everything has its own space. Push up the kick, snare, lead vox and enjoy.

ok For drums i followed WAVES tutorial

on drums i followed waves tutorial sing C1 etc to compress the samples and im mixing Other Nonreal acoustic drum samples with those but not compressing these but compressing the shit out of the acoustic ones. also should i put REverb on the snare or the whole drum kit or the kick to get more of that sound? if i dont use c4 on vocal tracks what should i use ? nothing?
