whats a good solid way to test the quality of my mixes? kinda of a weird question i know. but i need HELP.

i dont do a whole lot of recording, i write mostly beats and dubstep related songs on logic 9, but i am having trouble mixing all of my instruments to the way i would like to hear them. OR i do mix them to sound well, and then play them in my car or on a speaker system and they dont have the same mix to them. (too much bass, or the tracks just sound layered and linear. crappy dynamics) i thinnk the reason is because i am using headphones to mix with. but i cant imagine the result of headphone mixing being this bad. or maybe im just bad at mixing? idk

Help!

Search the forum for relevant information, there are plenty of excellent posts by much more talented and experienced people than yours truly: learn from them. Anyway, three tips:

1) Don't use headphones for mixing, get some decent reference monitors and proper room treatment. You want an accurate reproduction of your music to be able to mix it.

2) Don't try to fix what should be ripped out and done over again. Start mixing with as a good a performance as you can get, for example.

3) Listen critically to what the mix needs and adjust accordingly. Not only will this probably make your mix sound a lot better, you may also be able to learn more from the experience. Experiment with Logic's many excellent features, but don't think you need any of them in particular until you can hear it.

Good luck and enjoy!

Ha. i know the head phone thing is bad. but i don't have the money to treat my room. Which has two windows and tile floor. I use the top of the line KRK headphones. I actually expect that to be the main problem as far as the mixing goes.

Thank you for the tips! much appreciated.
