Hello,
In the serious stages of creating my indie cd. I use Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.x and would like some recommendations on the best (Direct-X?) tools available that will aid me in the process of creating final mixes and mastered versions. I'd like them to be plug ins so they work within the Proaudio interface. I'm doing rock music so loudness/punch, etc is a must. Thanks for any help/tips you can offer.

Go to these sites for a list of mastering programs, also try the mastering forum.
You can download demos and try them but imho it's hard to get a true handle on them that way.
Opinions vary wildly on these plugins,my advice would be to get one thats easy to use so you don't get bogged down with a learning curve.
A lot of people might suggest if you're really serious you might be better off takeing your work to a pro mastering house.
GOOD LUCK!

Hi AcidRock!

"A lot of people might suggest if you're really serious you might be better off takeing your work to a pro mastering house."

Just curious, when you give your work to a pro mastering house, do you give them a finished stereo track or do you give them the individual tracks as well? Should compression and eq already be adjusted to my taste before theu get it? Thanks for the info.

Go to the mastering forum and get the proper information,I know just enough about this subject to be dangerous!:(

Ive just invested in wavelab 4.0 which has a pretty good set of tools.

I didn't understand why I needed a separate package from Sonar. Until dachay persuaded me:)

But acidrock is right, the boys in the mastering forum are the ones to post to. Sjoko and Blue Bear specially.

Plug-Ins

I think Waves are pretty good plug-ins. They sound pretty solid. I have had a bad experience with using Sonic Foundry plug-ins (I have posted here before about the problem) for some strange reason (it only happened once) Using a Sonic Foundry Compressor messed up my project with all sorts of synchronization problems. I never once changed tempo or time signature, yet, after adding the sonci foundry compressor, whenever I cut and pasted everything was out of synch.......strange, but I digress

sorry

sorry for the added post, but I forgot to add that I use Cakewalk Pro Audio 9...

PS: GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!!!!!!
