I'd like to give it a try too.

I'd like to give it a try too if everyone else is in. Like Blue Bear said it would be cool to hear all the mixes and which he chose or liked best. Sounds cool, where can we get the tracks?

LOL.......

Nice one Chessrock...lol. Hey man nice work on those recordings. I had a listen to some of your work on your webpage, nice job! Nice open recording but still tight.

LOL!!!!
That "might" actually work well in this song! There's not really any room for a solo, but it would sound hilarious/righteous in the background. The song is kind of a mix between bossa nova and circus music. Why the hell not add a bagpipe?!?!?
Anyone know how to play a sitar :)
Keith
P.S. Trying to figure out a way to get my wave files online for download. My web page has a 20mb limit :(, which is hardly large enough for three tracks uncompressed.

Maybe someone here has an FTP site they'd be kind enough to let us use? ?

(Thanks for the comments, by the way, Sonicpaint!)

It's the truth.

No problem chessrock, just giving credit where credit is do. A lot of recordings done by home recording musicians don't seem to get the balance right. In most cases it's either nice and tight with not depth and width or good depth and width and loose bottom with rigid mids and highs.

Ok people before I get bashed I'll explain myself a bit. When I said "a lot of recordings done by home recording musicians" I wasn't implying to people in this forum. I have never hear music by anyone here except Chessrocks, Voxvenders and Chris Tondreau's stuff. What I meant was the music that I've heard on the net from various musicians stating that they did the recordings in their "home studios".

Just thought I'd clarify. :D

So who's got an FTP site we can use for the mixing competition?

Does anyone know of a company that will take your recorded tracks and mix/master them professionally?

I ask because I would like to compare the results to my own mixing/mastering.

Keith

I never knew a service like that existed?

interested in mastering

SoMm.
i'd like to try your service mastering a homerecorded- stereo cd.
i'm curious what mastering can do to home-made recordings.
so what's a cost on MASTERING one song?

how about a "we are the" mix from everyone with 300 or better post? humm, naw, no prozac this week...

same theroy though, imho...

lol, wouldn't that be a mess ;)

Yeah...I'm curious about that too...on average...no one has to give a "price quote."

Also, what is the usual way to transport your tracks to the mastering facility. I've only had friends do my tracks and have never dealt with a hired professional (well...there was that one time in Tijuana...).

Is it best for one to do their own mixing and send in the stereo mix or to transfer all the files separately? Maybe including a self-made mix to give the idea of what it's sort-of meant to sound like?

If you are best off sending in separate tracks, are most mastering facilities equipped to handle Cakewalk's Sonar files?

I could ask a bajillion more questions, but we'll leave it there for now.

:D

So we need a ftp site eh? I'll talk to my buddy and try to arange it.

i created an ftp account on my fresh account, u can use that if u want :)

humm, i'll believe it when i see it, however interesting ;) the thought is...

"who's" going to judge this mixdown/master thingy anyway? ouch, i smell smoke/flame, damn, quick, get the BBQ sauce, yummyumm, heh...

Yup, can't wait for this. :D
When Chris did this a few months ago, lots of people had a blast. The judging was probably more by popular vote, but the good mixes were obvious.

I don't think it has to be quite so formal.... people can simply post their mixes and let the listeners decide for themselves....

How's about them ballpark figures on mixing/mastering one track?
Anyone? I'd be interested to know also.

Thanks Ron82:>
I'm currently uploading the tracks to Ron's ftp site. Hopefully they will finish uploading in a few hours (I have dial up). I guess just start posting once you've finished. Everyone can be the judges and it should be fun to hear all the mixes and feedback.
Let the games begin!!!

Check my site -- I have package pricing for mixing people's homegrown tracks.
