Mixing / EQ question

I am currently mixing my band's project and have a question about the way FX plugins work as inserts in Vegas.

The songs are in the final stages of tweaking and I have noticed that the kick drum has consistantly too much low end energy. I mic'ed the kick with an EV868 and an SM57. Both mics were inside the single-headed kick. I am using the 57 with the lows rolled off for "bite / snap" and the EV with some lower mid reduction (about -5 db @ 800 with a .5 Q curve).

Here is what I want to do. I want to drop the level of the EV track by 2 db but then lessen the mid reduction by 2 db also. Will this translate into the same amount of low mids with the lows and highs reduced?

Stated more directly, will boosting the EQ by 2 db then lowering the track volume by 2 db leave me with a net change of 0 db for the frequency being EQ'ed (with everything else being attenuated by 2 db)?

Am I explaining this very well?
