ok so im using CEP2.1....i recored hip-hop vocals and ever time i mix down..and listen to the finished mp3 the sound is a lot quiter and duller then it was when i was editing...why is that? i do all the editing, then mix down to file..then save as mp3....

i think all my settings are correct but im not sure..what should i be checking..i basicly would like the same sound with the finished mp3 as i was getting when i was editing in cool edit..

thanks guys..

btw equpitment list in signature

could be the mp3 conversion. Go with the highest bitrate you can. I really wouldn't recomend mp3's for anything but ipod use though.

well i upload online, so it has to be mp3..wav files are way too big....am i right?

im doin a 4:1 fast attack compression on the vocals

yeah dull and quite..like the vocals around as loud and dont stand out as much as they did before the mix down

After you compress the vocal, do you then boost its level to get it as loud (or louder) as it was originally?

if you got waves you can use the L1 ultramaxizer as a peak limiter as long as you dont use any noise shaping on you vocals...or try doubling them for a fuller sound

after compression i normalize to 70 percent...i also double them to get a fuller sound..it sounds good in the multitrack..everything sounds great together..but when i mix it down..and play mp3...it doesnt sound as good...:-/

normalizing is somethin alot of ppl dont do because it brings noises up to match noises that are already loud...thats why i suggested L1 ultrmaximizer because it just makes it louder without clipping instead of all the other crap that comes with normalizing somethin

Try normalizing to 99%. Report back about how that sounds, both in terms of level and presence/dullness.
