Im a little confused about what are the main uses to mixers e.g are they only for recording or can i use them for my main music control ie pc music in other words can i control all the sounds from my pc with a mixer

A mixer sums audio signals together. Multiple signals go in, only two signals (a stereo pair) come out. You can't use it as a control surface if it's not designed to double as a control surface.

Mixers are a good thing to have if you want to adjust your sond prerecording. i use a mixer for recording drums since my tascam only has 2 inputs. i run the kit to the mixer adjust levels and send to my dp 01 its not ideal but it works to get some basic beats. only downside is i cant adjust the level of one peice at a time after its recorded so levels have to be set up pretty decent on the mixer
