Metal dude
Im having this little hearing thing going on. Ok,i generally mix 3 ft away from my monitors(event ps-8's) and now and then ill back away 5ft to seee how it sounds. then ill go my maximum of 11ft away. For some reason the kick drums sound more bassy and more have more clarity and more attack at 5-6ft away from the monitors. I thought that the farther away from the sound source the more bass feq you will hear? or am i wrong? or are my ears burnt/playing tricks on me.
heres some info on the room that i am mixing in:
<----14ft ----> wide
11ft from speakers to back wall
there is a sofa and a intertainment system in the room

Bass can build up or cancel in spots all over a small room. Sometimes listening from another room can also be an interesting alternate view of things.

if you are using nearfield monitors, stay near...3-5 feet....check the mix at extrememly quiet levels also and you may be surprised......

The wavelength of bas frequencies is a lot longer than high-frequencies, so it takes further distance for the soundwave to develop....

Add to that dead spots, room modes, standing waves and you can easily get varied response in different areas of the room.....

This is exactly what room acoustic design and sound absorption techniques try to control....
