I have two things to say... first, for all your people like me who are new to recording and have limited knowledge on mixing/mastering/compressing etc, try buying or borrowing a book that can teach you... you can learn quite a lot in a short amount of time... i recently bought "Home Recording for Musicians for Dummies" off ebay and I have learned so much already... it can really help you out...
Secondly, for me and others like me, does anyone know any other great books that go in depth into mixing, mastering, adding effects, etc...

thanks..

I would like to get a copy of that book, mainly for a little more insight to the mastering side of home recording. Whats the authors name and publisher so I can chase one up?

Look up "Modern Recording Techniques", "The Mixing Engineer's Handbook", and "The Mastering Engineer's Handbook". All three are available at Amazon.com and in the Music section of most Borders book stores. There are a few other very good titles that I have browsed through at Borders, but I forget their names offhand. A quick visit should yield several good prospects for you.

"The Mixing Engineer's Handbook" by Bobby Owsinski was pretty good. A lot of the text is dedicated toward interviews, but there is a lot of good baseline information that proved itself useful.

Hey Gorty,

I don't know the publisher's name, but the author's name is Jeff Strong. That book is an excellent info-giver, and I will be buying it again. I sent my copy to my out-of-town brother, some time last year, and have really missed it. I know that there are others on the market, but I can really speak for this particular book being an excellent one. I just checked, and Amazon.com is presently selling that book for $14.95. I also see that there is a 2nd edition of that book, and believe that the price for it was $21.95.

Anybody read "The Art of Mixing"? I just ordered it from amazon. I've heard lots of great reviews about it and the cool visual examples it uses to explain the mixing field.

i love it

i picked up my copy from barnes and nobles. i love the book. it explained everything in a very simple way. the book rocks. good investment.
