I'm new to recodring. I just bought some gear. emu 0404 soundcard, eurorack ub1622fx-pro, and true b2031a monitors. Kind of pressed for money. Ok here is my setup; My main out goes to my monitors with balanced xlr cables. I plug my instruments into a mono channel and press the sub button to send that signal to the sub out 1 and 2, from my sub out 1 and 2 i have it plugged into the input of my sound card left and right, the output of my soundcard comes back to my mixing board and to a stereo channel strip( two trs cords), this channel I have the main out button pressed, So with my main mix sliders i control the volume to my monitors and with the sub 1 and 2 sliders i control the output to the sound card. My problem? I record one track, then when I record on the next track I notice the recording of the first track comes through to the second track very weak. Im not playing anything on track two. Is this crosstalk on my mixing board? Or do I have this wired wrong? Do all channels go to main mix? Whats the main, sub, solo buttons for?

It is prob. a loop. Which means your recording what is playing onto the computer. Its possible that the mixer is bleeding the main into the sub outs. It could also be that the mic is picking up the sound coming from the speakers while your recording. Try muting or turning off the speakers while recording another track to see if that helps. If it does help, you need to move the mic away from the monitors or use headphones.

I have pressed the mute on the channel with the guitar which is the only instrument plugged in. I havnt tried turning off the speakers but Ill try it. though I dont know how the mixer can pick up the speakers with the mute on. So i know the guitar is not picking up the sound from the speakers? I maybe able to return the mixer since its still new. If I have to. I know its a Ber. I just thought Id start cheap to see if Im cut out to record. If not, then my losses are small. I just want to know if this is a mixer issue or an I dont know how issue.

Use one of the channel inserts with a trs cable plugged half way in and run that to your sound card to record.

why halfway in? So the sub out is not the way to record?

Apparently it's not the way to do it or you wouldn't be having problems. :D

If you plug it all the way in, the signal needs to be returned to the mixer as the internal path is broken. You just want an output so you can send it to your soundcard. You'll still be able to monitor the signal by sending it to the main outs.

Its funny how it was easy for me to record directly to the soundcard. no problems. howerver I cant seem to get a good recording using a mixer. I wanted a mixer to control my monitor volumes, eq before the signal gets to the soundcard and input levels and also to gain experience with the board. I will try using the insert when I get home.
Thanks

I tried the insert. However I have no control over the signal like paning or using the the effects on the mixer in stereo or eq

correct, using the half way insert you would just basically use the mixer's preamp and send that signal to the computer, bypassing any volume,mute,pan....all can be done in the software your using.

Are you plugging the guitar directly into the mixer?

how are you recording the guitar?

yes Im pluging the guitar direct. I sometimes barrow my cusins effects prossesor with stereo outs.
