Hi!

I'm using the AI4 and wonder if anybody know of some simple manual or description that explain the basic ideas concerning how to mix a pop - funk melody.

(I use HALionOne instruments, synth bass, drums, choir and a string section + electric guitar and six vocal voices).

Hate to say it but there is nothing simple about it. The simple description is not entirely helpful because it is so open-ended:

Turn on all of the tracks. Listen to them. Correct anything that needs correction. Balance the volumes of the instruments. Pan the instruments.

You need to know two things. You need to know the mechanics of how to operate all of the do-dads. That's easy. You need to know how to listen on a level beyond how any reasonable person would listen. That takes years.

Once you know how to listen, there is no mystery to what do-dad you need or how to use that do-dad. At worst your question will be "does this do-dad exist?".

It took me awhile to learn this, so I'm going to tell you now and save you a lot of misery. The first thing I do before mixing any project now is put a gain plug followed by a level meter as the first two inserts on every channel. Play the tracks one at a time and watch the level meter. Use the gain plug to get the level meters peaking at around -18 to -15 dbfs. Do that for every track. Now mix away.
