Hi

I'm using the SBLive for midi and the audiophile for audio.

Anyone know the best way to get the two signals mixed together and coming out of the speakers?

I've figured this out so far:

Option 1- Routing SB Live digital out to Audiophile digital in?
Does the digital out of the SBLive carry the sounds from my midi tracks and then into the digital input of the audiophile. Is that how it works?
What kind of lead do you need to route the digital of the SBLive to the audiophile?
Is this safe?

Option 2- Physically mixing the two signals after they've both come independently out the back
Do I need a mixer or can I just mix the two lefts together with a connector, and the same with the two rights and then into the monitors

Cheers

Also, what types of parts are you doing MIDI (drums, piano, strings)?????

so far I'm just doing drums (with session drummer) and piano using one of the standard sounds (warm pad) and a piano soundfont.
Probably won't be using much more than this in the future either apart from looking for a few new soundfonts.
Ultimately I hope to get a real percussionist for drums and failing that a programmer

Ok, the answer for you is painfully obvious....get your MIDI tracks done first, and since drums are usually done first, that will not pose a problem...then record each midi track as a wav file one by one....Cakewalk Forum should help you out with that if you need it....you should have Cakewalk use SBLive as your MIDI Source as Delta as your audio source.....at this point, mute all your midi tracks, and all tracks will now be audio...viola...go ahead and use the Delta to record your audio parts.....

Ill send you my bill.....

Oh yeah....now why didn't I think of that.
I mean, right, that'll really work won't it.
I mean I have to convert to audio anyway don't I when I mix down right.
Only problem is I've gotta switch the leads to the monitors from the SBlive outs to the audiophile outs after doing the midi bits. But I guess, it only needs to be done once, so I reckon I can manage, though I might have to have a rest for a bit afterwards

cheers Gidge

where u gonna send the bill to by the way?

gotta go to bed now. 2.30 am here

oh, and wot's cakewalk forum?

Well, if you are not using the digital input of the Audiophile, you could get a short 75ohm coaxial cable I believe and go from the SB to the Delta like you were thinking before....it wouldnt really work for listening to the two cards together like you wanted because youd probably experience a bit of latency and the tracks wouldnt line up right...but just for monitoring the midi tracks it will work fine....
