Mixing Advice Needed

First of all, very good acoustic guitar sound...nice spread! Wow when it first started playing I was very excited. However, I didn't like the guitar tones that start up at about 0:26 and play out melodies throughout....just too...boingy? A little too loud too...especially during the "here comes the sun line"...the one in the right channel fights the vocals.

Not sure if the synth is necessary.

At times I think I can hear the bass...other times I wonder if there is any bass at all?

The vocals need to come up...or more likely, everything else needs to go down a bit. Vocals were well-done though...maybe could have used a bit of reverb (in fact the whole mix was a little dry).

The drum sound was ok overall...snare was maybe a little thick.

You say you were recording a friend so I shouldn't say too much about the performance...but I feel like I have to. For one it's really rushed. This is a beautiful song and needs to breath a little. And I must say that my favorite part of the original is the line "and I say" right after the chorus...."and eeeyyyeee say". In this version it's definately been overlooked :(

All in all, good recording! And again, great job with those intro guitars, really great!

Thanks for the comments. It's got some tweaking to do. I'm recording it FOR a friend... but it's all me.

I'll do some adjusting. Thanks

Slack....

I backed the problem guitar down a little... beefed up the bass... and added some more verb to the vocal. You're right... it made a nice change. Left the synth though.

Can't do much about the tempo. It's at 127. Probably should have slowed it just a bit.

Posted the new one.

Thanks very much for the advice.

twas a nice rendition you did there. The 2nd guitar a little strong on the guitar hooks. The bass and vocal could come up a little more. The synth is ok but I`d use it sparingly. You pick pretty well too man. I like some of that stuff you did on crawdads tune :)

Couldn't get it, so i listened to "Set My Soul Free". That is one righteous Bob Dylan voice. The organ sounded great too.

Thanks Toki.... Not sure what happend to it Twist. I reloaded it and it looks like its there now. Thanks for listening to the other.

If it were me, I'd pull that synth out altogether--just because it plays havoc with the sense of space and the reverb settings. Makes it hard to hear what you have going on. If you have to have it in there, I'd go more sparingly and pull it back to where its totally subliminal. It sounds like you have a pretty nice recording going on otherwise. Ever been in a room where everybody is talking and you have a hard time hearing the person whos talking to you? Thats what the synth is doing to my hearing. Take me with a grain of salt cause my hearing sucks anyway.:D

Thanks for the advice Crawdad. I played it for our keyboard player and he immediately said..... uh... you left off the signature guitar riff?? Listened to the CD again... and he was right. So I added that and re-mixed.

I appreciate everyone that listened to it.
