This IS about guitars, just hang in there a second...
I'm back for more schooling. A few weeks ago I asked about whether I needed to buy an acoustic specific amp or use some of the stuff I have. I got some good feedback and will use what I have so that I can expand later. I will be using it for live, solo performances and then a bit of home recording. Small is key. Economical is good too.

I am looking for a small non-powered mixer with balanced inputs, right-left outputs, a bit of eq and maybe even reverb or effects. Six channels is about all I need. I am frrrreegin blown away at how much stuff is out there both on e-bay and at places like Musicians friend etc.
What would be really cool is if the mixer was single rack space as I have just enough room for it above my amp. this is not required however.

Is there a brand I should steer clear of?
What might compliment my six and 12 strings sound?
What has worked for you folks?

Pickup these

Get a Mackie 1402 and a Microverb 4. If you only need 4 mic inputs and don't mind rotary faders get the 1202.

Run the aux sends to the microverb and feed the microverb back into one of the stereo channels. You can send as much or as little of each channel desired to the effects unit and control how much of the reverb you want going back to the stereo outs all from the mixer. You don't have to mess with the mix on the effects unit.

This is an inexpensive setup and it will give you excellent sound.

DITTO.

I have a Mackie CFX mixer with onboard effects. I love it, but if I had it to do over again, I'd spend a couple more bucks and get the 1402 with the VLZ preamps, and do any reverb and so forth with a sidechain unit of some type. The preamps are better. Mackie is TOUGH!
