I just bought a used Mackie 1202 and would like to use it with Guitar Tracks 2. I used an adapter to run both outputs to the line in. I don't get a signal when the track is set on the rt. ds-xg wave recording. Also with headphones I can only hear in the left ear. Is this the correct way to hook up a mixer?? TIA

Mixer To Computer

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN I STARTED RECORDING TO MY PC. NO MATTER WHAT I DID EVERYTHING PANNED TO THE LEFT! THEN I STARTED FOOLING AROUND WITH CABLES- ORIGINALLY I USED A 1/4" SPEAKER CABLE WITH AN 1/8" STEREO ADAPTER GOING INTO THE LINE IN. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT MY 1/4" CABLE WAS MONO AND EVEN THOUGH THE ADAPTER WAS STEREO IT WOULD CANCEL OUT THE RIGHT SIDE. SO I WENT TO RADIO SHACK BOUGHT A 1/8" STEREO PLUG AND CONNECTED IT TO MY EXISTING CABLE. IF YOU ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH MAKING CABLES BE SURE YOU TAKE THE HOT WIRE AND CONNECT IT TO BOTH R & L ON THE 1/8" PLUG. THIS IS WHAT I DID AND MY SET UP WORKS GREAT! HOPEFULLY THIS WILL HELP YOU

Mono

yeah....stereo connectors/cables.
A 1/4 to 1/8 stereo cable would eliminate the adaptor, some music stores have the cable.
Avoid the adaptor if at all possible.
the fewer the better, the newer the better, don't always believe that a new cable, connector or adaptor can't be bad.
Test it on other applications.
I had a similar problem...after banging my head against the wall...it turned out that my headphones were the problem.
I had my head up my ass and it gave me a shitty outlook on the situation : )

Maybe you can help me also.

I just bought a Behringer MX802A to hook up to my PC. I'm not sure if you're familiar with it at all but I'm not sure (call me a newbie I suppose) which connection to send to the PC's line input. It seems my choices could be: (1) Main Out - Two 1/4" Jacks labelled Left and Right, (2) Control Room Out - Two 1/4" Jacks labelled Left and Right, or 2-Track In/Out - One set of RCA jacks for each channel.

Thanks!

I would suggest Main out.

Thanks Tim for the response.

I'm assuming the tape in/out is for recording what's running through the board (tape deck). Could I connect the outs to the sound card line input and the sound cards line input back into the tape input. I could then run the main out to monitors.

I'm going to use your suggestion first (and maybe pick up some cables to try my idea also). I guess what I should have really asked is if any of the outputs that I mentioned in my previous post would hurt the sound card on my computer.

Again, thanks!

I have a 1402 mackie...what I do is use the mains to record with.I Use the auxilary outs for monitors or head phones.
I have never tried to use the tape out to a sound card.
Try it,I don't know if would work, or how it would sound.
Record a couple of bars and see what you come up with.
I tried the tape out on a live situation in to a
tascam 4 track and it didn't work...

A few live recordings,
1402 main outs--> A/D I/O (wave 824)--> sound card.
