After the info I got here I started to visit the local shops to check prices and have come up with a bit of a problem.
The price for a preamp and DI box is a bit too much for me at least for now.
But as I checked some auctions I found some mixers with preamp for a price I could afford.

Can I plug my guitar into the mixer and mixer to soundcard?
If so what features should it have?
Now there are two behringers with a good price one going for 18 days the other for 23. The reference is UB502 and UB802.
They are 20€ to 40€ under the prices I found on shops will it be worth it or should I buy a new mixer?

If anyone know a mixer with those capabilities and at the price range of those mixers would be a great help.

Thanks in advance,
Hugo Carmona

Hey Mad, welcome to the BBS. Yes, you can use a mixer to plug into but it's not your best option. Give more info to get your other questions answered, like how much you have to spend, the model mixers you're looking at or what auction your looking at. Do you have a guitar amp? It's best to mic that IMO.

Well I have an electric guitar, amp and pc.
I am only have 150€ available now. Problem is every preamp I see cost more than that plus a mic really blows my budget.
A mixer could be usefull later to record more than one instrument or to monitor so if I could use one has a temporary setup would be great.
The models I said above, but here are the links:

What you want to consider is what you plan on doing with recording in the future. If you're going to get serious about it then you should save your money and buy better equipment. I hear alot about peeps that have spent their money on equipment only to have it sit around after they decide they need something better. The pre's on the Behringer will work for sure but there is so much better out there and it will be useful as a mixer but it certainly isn't enough channels to do a decent mix on a 4 piece band.. Surf around this site and read alot before you go and spend your cash.

Hey Mad Cat,

Although NYMorningstar is correct in pretty much everything he wrote, there is one thing i sort of disagree with....

"you should save your money and buy better equipment."

Yes you should save your money and buy better equipment later, but that doesn't mean you can't get cheaper equipment NOW and SELL it later when you have more money.

I bought a Behringer MX802A brand new back in December and sold it a week ago for 93% of what I paid!!! I got a Soundcraft Spirit E12 as a replacement. I consider it a $5 "rental fee" for 3 months of that mixer. I could've waited 3 months without a mixer and got the Soundcraft just now, but I would've had to bum around during that time.

Time is money. Unless you want to wait awhile, I'd go on ebay and see what you can do. It may be slightly harder for you because it doesn't seem like you don't live the US (international shipping issues), but it may be worth a shot.

Well my budget allows me to get a UB1202. I'm still researching and have found something: a preamp and DI box inside my budget.
It's another option to record my guitar, which would be better?

Guitar->Mixer->Soundcard

Guitar->DI box->Preamp->Soundcard

Thanks for the good advice, I will continue searching but should buy this friday. I will post my choice here but any help will be welcome till friday morning.

Thanks again,
Hugo Carmona

If you get the Behringer, get the one with at least 2 preamps. I've gotten some crap at first for good deals on ebay, then saved up, sold it, and gotten something better. There is a balance though, but it's definitely ok to get some used stuff for a good price then sell it later for almost the same and get something better.
