Mixer question

I'm thinking of getting a mixer + microphone ...
and I've got two choices for the mixer.... a peavey one or a mackie one.... but the difference between the prices of the two is quite big where I live (singapore)....
So, I was thinking.... is the difference in recording quality big enough to warrant the difference in price? I'm on a low budget and a mackie will hurt my pocket for sure....

mic I'll get the shure sm57...

If the Peavey can do what you need it to do , I wouldn't worry about sound quality if your major option is a Mackie.
