Hey guys,

I just bought a yamaha MG166fx, its got 16 inputs and its got Phantom powers.

Now my question is, for example if i plug in my 5 dynamic mics and 2 condenser mics. Of course i'll need to punch in the 'phantom power' button in order to use the condensers. BUT, will i damage the dynamic mics that are currently plugged in?

I thought that wow! this phantom power might kill my dynamic mics! if plugged in at the same time

I read that we have to make sure that the phantom power button is off before plug in the condensers.

Dynamics don't care if there is phantom power, but if you ever get a ribbon mic, they can be damaged by phantom power.

Just be sure that your volume is turned down before turning the phantom power on or off!
All you need to do is make that mistake once and you'll never forget.

The sound (KPOW) will be imprinted on your memory forever and if your monitors survive and aren't splattered all over your face it will be a miracle.

I used to have an EMU 1820 interface and that f---- thing would always default to full blast whenever I rebooted my computer.

I was ready to start wearing "depends" for how many times I pissed myself when I hit the play button and that motherf--- would hit me at about 190 dB. Felt like that guy in the old memorex commercials

I've never heard of that and have been plugging my Neumanns in with the phantom on for 20 years.
