Firstly I need to get a sound card. I won't really need more than 4in/4out but i suppose if i have more, it's good for the future. i would like to have midi. What I really need is high quality sound because most of my stuff will be recorded live. I already looked at delta 1010lt, waveterminal 192x and delta 66. Not too sure about echo stuff. What do you think i should buy? and do you have any other suggestions?

I read the waveterminal 192x uses same AD converter as lynx two. Does it sound as good or near?

I already have a condenser mic, audio technica at-4040. Therefore i need preamp. I am thinking about spending $80 for it. But i don't know whether i should get a mixer with preamp (eg. behringer eurorack) or just preamp (eg audio buddy). What do you guys think?

I'm only experienced with MAudio (Delta) and Echo (MIA) products and can recommend them without hesitation. I like the MIA for a 2 input but it has no MIDI. I don't think you would go wrong with something like a Delta 66. The only thing in your setup that bugs me is your using a very nice Mic and going to run it into a POS preamp? I'm certainly not knocking anyone for using a Audio Buddy but they just don't hold a candle to nice preamps. If it were me (and believe me, I'm nobody) I would go with a better preamp for that Mic, but if it's all you can afford then you have no choice and a cheapy pre will get you started. I would not get a cheap mixer unless you absolutely need it for routing. I've got a cheap mixer (Alesis Studio 24) and already want to upgrade it. I would go with that preamp over the Behringer and save your quarters for a good mixing console or a better preamp. But your getting a good start by using a decent Mic, that was a good decision.

Get your sound card and get to work!

Thanks therage!. i suppose I can dig more money for the preamp. I can probably dig upto about $200. Can you recommend me one at that price?
