I do a lot of home recording and I am looking for a good, but low cost, mixer or preamp to record guitars and vocals..can anyone recommend a mixer that cost less than $100 but with descent compression and that is compatable with my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard
thanks

i dont think there are any mixers under $100 with "descent compression"

Good luck finding a useable mixer under 100 bucks, a mixer with decent compression for under $100 is just dreaming. Hell, it's even hard to find a stand alone preamp that's worth a crap under 100 bucks.

This is the absolute cheapest setup that I could possibly recommend:

M-audio audiobuddy - $80
Behringer Composer Pro Compressor - $110

If you can somehow scrape together $175 for a compressor, the FMR RNC would be a MUCH better investment than the behringer.

Get one on ebay used for 100 bucks. I personally have one and think it adds noise to my recordings to much. I find a much better compression recording straight into the computer and using a waves c1 compressor. Is this just me, or am I just a digital freak?

So you are serious? I find it useful when recording a track into the comp as I can use the compressor to push it right up to the red. It is fun to get the compressor to self oscillate at least.

Yamaha MD8

I use a Yamaha MD8. Yes its minidisc, but it has two balanced inputs and an FX bus so I can go right into the MD8 with a mic and a GK250ML and then use the Adrenalinn (super untapped potential) to sauce it up. Works for me...
