Hi,

Just setting up at home with the idea of recording the band i am in - so far i am running cakewalk on a PC, and i am running microphones etc thru a tascam porta 02. Is it worthwhile me looking at getting a dedicated mixer ? the band have a new peavey mixer style PA, but im not sure if this would be suitable as its a power amp ?.

Has anyone any suggestions on a good mixer to get if this is the best way forward - typically its a two guitarists/bass/vocal/drums setup. Or if the peavey PA is suitable, how would this be best hooked up to the PC.

Cheers

The Peavey will probably work but be a bit noisy. You could get a Behringer mixer if can't spend any money. Get a soundcraft or Mackie if you want some decent quality.

With any of them you take the Main line outs and hook that up to the line inputs on your soundcard. If you use the Peavey DO NOT use any powered or speaker outputs or you will start seeing smoke and flames.

Cheers Tex,

Have been looking at the Behringer mixer site, and i think the EURORACK MX802A may suit me, the extra few inputs seems a bargain for only a bit more dosh........what do you reckon ? I don't know how much i will get into this at the moment so i a bit reluctant to spend alot, plus i reckon at a push we will be recording three mics at once - for the drums?

Cheers,

Scooby :)
