Mixer hook up to eliminate latency

I'm considering using a mixer to eliminate latency when tracking. I'm pretty new to PC recording. What is the best way to hook one up for this? I'll likely be using a small Alto 6 channel unit with balanced ins/outs. Here is my set up:

P4 2.4 GB
1 GB RAM
Cubase SX 2.0
Echo Mia soundcard
Focusrite Voicemaster
ART DPS II
Line 6 POD Pro

Ummm, a mixer has nothing to do with latency. The Echo Mia has pretty low latency I believe.

I meant using a mixer to moniter with while tracking, instead of monitering directly from the soundcard.

Still has nothing to do with it. Latency is a soundcard/software issue.

Also ... I need the extra imputs from a mixer for other gear I want to leave plugged in, i.e. drum machine, etc, so I don't have to repatch all the time.

If the mixer has direct outs, I would hook up your Pod and drum machine etc, to those channels that do. That gives you control of the signal level into the soundcard. For monitoring, bring the main outs of the Mia back into the mixer, either into channels or a stereo aux return.

A Delta 1010 has a direct out for each channel allowing you to monitor inputs in real time while also monitoring previously recorded tracks (all through a hardware mixer). This affectively results in zero latency monitoring while laying down new tracks. Is this what you meant?

You should be OK with what you've got. Echo cards have pretty low latency - you shouldn't even notice it. I have the Layla 24/96 and it's a great card.

P.S. It never ceases to amaze me when someone says "I've got such and such gear and want to use it in such and such a way," someone inevitably recommends something for completely different gear! Read the questions, people!

Yo madaudio i was thinking about going with the Layla 24/96 but how do you have yours hooked up i was thinking of running the layla 24/96 and using the Tascam-USB 428 as my DAW surface controller to control the samplitude 7 software i have would that be a pretty solid setup with the SM Pro Audio CO3 Tube Mic, TC Helicon Quintet, and the Focusrite Twin Trak chain strip, Alesis QS 62 keyboard, behringer truth monitors so what do you think or do you think i should go with my first choice which isn't stated here but here it is

AARDVARK Q10 8 CLASS A MIC PREAMP
MACKIE 1642 VLZ 16X4X2 OUTBOARD MIXER
FURMAN METERED SIX POWER CONDITIONER
CO3 TUBE MIC
TC HELICON QUINTET
FOCUSRITE DUAL CHANNEL STRIP

GIVE ME YOUR OPINION TRYING TO STAY AWAY FROM NOISE INTERFERENCE AND HISSING IN MY VOCAL TRACKS!!!!!
