Im looking for a good mixer to hook up to my edirol fa 66 firewire interface via my pc

I only really need 2 microphone channels for recording acoustic piano and guitar.

Was thinking about the SAMSON MDR-6 seems compact and solid enough but i have read mixed reviews some great some not so great, any ideas folks????

Cheers :)

Samson make good gear for the lower end of the market. The MDR-6 has everything you'll need and nothing more, so my recommendation is to buy it.

Keep in mind that not everyone who gives a piece of gear a negative review has one or would have the first clue how to use one if they did own it.

There's no age or experience limit connected with the internet so some of the bad reviews you've read might well have been posted by grounded 13 year-olds with nothing better to do.

Are you not happy with the preamps built into the Edirol, or are there two extra line-inputs that you want two more channels for? In either case, it would seem to me that it would make more sense to simply buy a decent 2-channel preamp - that way you are paying for the pre's alone, and not for all the extra crap that runs up the price of mixers (which often just adds a lot of noise - and the pre's in small mixers generally aren't very good).

Exactly the preamps on the edirol are just ok ive heard much better, esp when recording acoustic piano, how much do u think i would have to spend on a good quality 2 channel preamp????
