Mixer comp setup

If i buy a mixer with a Usb or firewire out, would there be any reason to get a new soundcard....all the signal would transfer through the usb or firewire correct? Also would this setup allow me to multitrack onto my comp. Thanks in advance

The mixer should act as the soundcard and it will multi-track provided the software can multi-track, which it should be able to.

Yes, the mixer will function as a soundcard. Be aware that all the USB mixers I've seen only allow the transfer of a single stereo (L/R) submix to/from the mixer (i.e. - you can't send each individual mixer channel to a separate track in the recording software).

So you would deffinitely recomend firewire over usb? and also Playback would occur through the board as well...i would plug headphones or monitors into the board correct?
