I'm setting up my project studio i'm gonna be record only rap and R&B artist. Right now my setup is a fast computer don't really feel like listing the specs, a Delta 44 thats in the mail, a AKG 1000C for vocals, I'm using CEP 2.0 I'm also lookin into a mixer this is where I'm having a lil problem, I plan on gettin a mpc 2000XL within the next 2 months and the 8 out upgrade, should I buy a 16 or 24 channel mixer so I can run the 8 outs from the mpc into the mixer then mix down to 2 stereo tracks and send them into my delta along with the vocals??? is that even possible??? Also i'm lookin for a decent pair of near field monitors for under $500 Canadian any ideas???

Thanks

A mackie 16 channel mixer should be fine for that. Yes, you can mix the 8 outs and even give the seperate channels effects and eq while grouping them to a two track into the 1010. Why not just run them into 8 channels in the computer for more mixing flexibility?

jake i think he's talking anout the delta44 not the 1010...

this post is along the same lines.

I have not been able to figure out the following:

i have 2 synched darla24's each with 2 inputs and 8 outputs.
i have a fairly powerful pc.
i have a mackie 24x8 (in the mail)
i have sonar 2.2xl (also in the mail)

will this combination work to give me a total of 2 ins and 22 mackie mixable channels? (11 stereo and 22 mono)

or is it too many A/D - D/A conversions? how adversly does each conversion impact the quality of the tracks?

here is what my board has in the way of jacks:

For my "in" channels going in to Sonar, would I use the direct out from the board into the L and R (In) on the darla breakout box?

And then.. for return from darla, would I plug in from the breakout box's 8 outs and go into the boards Line Ins for 8 channels, correct? (16 channels for both darla cards)

How will I get outboard gear in the loop? By running the darla outs first through some kind of patch bay? and then just patching what I want? then back into the board? How does the whole patch bay thing work exactly?

thanks for the help.. i cant seem to get an answer about this and I am kinda new to this stuff. Not to mention I dont have the equipmen here yet so.. I cant trial and error it, and I cant seem to stop thinking about it! :) I guess I am just psyched to get started!

No, mix to stereo inside your computer. It's a lot easier that way.
