Mixdown

Well our band recorded some tracks and now want to mixdown. We recorded on a Cassette or Analog 4-track. Any ideas what to use to mixdown to stereo. Preferably to get it on a CD?

There are a number of options -

1) Standalone harddisk recorder such as the Alesis Masterlink - from it you can go right to CD

2) computer - assuming you have one with a good soundcard (gaming cards such as SB are not "audio cards")

3) DAT - digital audio tape

4) Reel to reel - analog (not worth it unless it's pro machine)

5) Minidisc - lossy compressed audio, so it's not ideal, but depending on the seriousness of the project, you can make it work.

6) hifi VHS..... kind of a poor man's DAT machine, although it's not a digital recording format

7) Cassette - you could, but you don't really want to......

Into a computer would probably be best for you (read "cheapest" option). Alls you'd need then is software to record into and a CD burner in the computer. If you have to buy all of that, it would still be cheaper than the alternatives if your final goal is to just have it on a CD.

I will just go and buy a hardware cd recorder, they're not that expensive these days.

Ahhh, the old HiFi VHS tricky. I really did treat mine like it was a DAT. I wouldnt even let my ex-wife run a video tape through it.

I had the hardest time trying to convince her that " It's not a VCR ",, " Its a Hifi High End modified cassette record that uses special expensive VCR tapes" Is what I used to tell her. LOL

So Dont Touch it !! I even painted the input color codes all black.

I might send a digital mix to it again one day just for playback, If I can find it.
