Does anyone here have any experience with any of the popular mixdown units, (i.e. TC finalizer 96K, TC finanlizer plus, TC finalizer express, DBX Q;uantum, or Alesis Masterlink). I'm having a hard time deciding which of these if any are worth the money you spend. Is this a better route than going thru a mastering house. I just think if I'm goint to spend one or two thousand dollars to master something maybe I'd be better off doing it myself and having some hardware to show for it.

No where near better than going through a qualified mastering engineer, for sure. Find one used somewhere, or borrow one and see if it does the trick before you plunk down money. I can think of alot of things that will probably make a bigger difference in your final product than one of those would. List your equipment.

I must confess: Early on I bought a finalizer. I GAURANTEE YOU WILL NOT GET THE SAME RESULTS AS SENDING YOUR STUFF TO A MASTERING HOUSE!!! Though I did not purchase it for that reason, it still was a waste of money. You can do the same thing with a little time, training, and software (Soundforge, Waves, etc.) If you still decide you want one, get in touch with me!
