I am mixing down to my masterlink and curious if anyone else uses one. I am trying to figure out how to burn a cd without rendering, so i can check mixes in my car.

i tried what the manual says to do, but its still rendering.

anyone familiar?

Burning is rendering. You can't burn a disc without rendering the disc.

Any reason you wouldn't just do that in the DAW (assuming you're mixing ITB in the first place)?

(EDIT) -- Or are you just trying to run a digital out to the ML and "mix in real time (which is going to give you the same data as rendering anyway)?

You have to render the final data ITB or ITMasterlink... With the clumsy editing functions in the ML, you'll probably save BIG time just rendering ITB.

thanks MM

Im tracking with a korg D888 which has 8 direct out capabilities. So Im using the 8 outs to my yamaha mixer than mixing down to the masterlink as well as my teac reel to reel 2trk.

the Korg doesnt have a disc burner but I loved the 8 out (8track) capabilities. I actually set up a car stereo in my studio with an inverter and am using car speakers to test my mixes.Im somewhat a noob, so the diff in sound between my monitors and my stereo and the car blew my mind. I thought I had a killer mix especially my drums and when I popped in the car stereo-pure mud.

I dont have a pc for recording or I would use the cubase that came with the korg.

the masterlink manual says you can bypass the rendering stage by recording at 44.1hz/16 bit.

I didnt realize rendering was burning and the above was for an entire playlist.

I need to read up on the different options for recording on the masterlink as far as the difference between bit option, etc.

thanks!

Ah - Could be true - Recording direct to CD and then finalizing... I have a ML here, but it's pretty rarely used...

Anyway - The car stereo *in the studio* isn't going to be anything like the car stereo in the car. Even a car inside a room is going to be considerably different than a car out in the driveway. Excessive low end bounces around in a room no matter what speakers it's coming from. Excessive low end in a car doesn't reflect back into the car (although it can be resonant at certain frequencies).

yo -

if you have any fades or processing while in 44.1/16 - the masterlink will create a rendered image... then go through the cd creation process. it takes twice as long...and can be a PIA to wait. are ya sure you're just burning a "clean" copy? if you son't want all the tunes in the play list - save a playlist for 'mix checking' and move the tracks you want into that.

on that car note - didn't a bigger studio used to have a car in the control room? sweet.

don't know if this is going to be available to do much longer...but you can get an FM transmitter at radio shack pretty cheap and send it to your car. save on the cds...i've always wanted to do that...never have gotten around to it.

laters,

Mike

My Masterlink serves me really well. Granted it takes a while to render, but the end product is telling the truth. If your car mixes are coming out muddy, make sure your monitors are not sitting where they're vibrating...in other words, isolate them from your console rail. Put them up on some foam. Way better mix. :)
