i do love smilies...
hi there,

i was trying to mix down a new song in Cubase today, and for some reason, it was only putting certain tracks into the mixdown, and when i tried again, it did it again, only with different tracks.

i've had a good look around, and can't see anything i could be doing wrong... any thoughts?

More info would be needed. What certain tracks were exported? Make sure monitoring is off (yellow speaker off) when exporting.

i tried exporting a number of times, and it seemed fairly sporadic which tracks were exported - though it did seem to be missing out whole group tracks, not just individual tracks sometimes (when it Did miss out the drums, it missed out the whole drum group, not just the snare. otherwise it kept everything.)

i'll make sure i haven't had monitoring on - i'm fairly sure i haven't. if i had, then it wouldn't cause this sporadic, fairly random mixdown problem, would it?

could it be a problem involving my Delta 66 setup? i've tried reinstalling the drivers, and that didn't seem to have an effect.

thanks for the help,

Andy

If you're using grouped tracks, make sure all groups are outputting to the master stereo bus (BUS 1, or whatever it's called for you). Also, if you have midi tracks, some versions of cubase don't include general midi in the mixdown (you have to render them to audio first and/or output them to a VSTi, which then goes to the master bus). Your soundcard shouldn't be the problem, but just make sure none of your tracks are routed to the outputs of the delta card, as that would make them not appear on the master bus.

To add to what scrubs said: Make sure that the only thing that you are monitoring is the master buss. Then when you select export--->Audio mixdown, in the save window that pops up, make sure you that you select the main bus in the output dropdown menu.

aha! that got the bugger working!

for some reason, it had decided to set the outputs for some of the channels to a different ouput. i know i didn't change it. *shrugs*

but ta for the help, it's much appreciated :)

Scubs. I'm running CuBase SX 1.01 & having this exact problem (no MIDI in the output WAV file). Added to this, I am a MIDI noob.

Can you tell me please how to 'render to audio' (I don't see that as an option under File/Export) or how to 'output them to a VSTi'?

Much appreciated if you could.

SX 1 was so long ago, I don't remember what it said. Under export, does it say 'audio mixdown'? That is what it's said for the last 5 or 6 years.

Yes, 'Audio Mixdown' and 'MIDI File'. MIDI offers 'Type 0' or 'Type 1' as options.
