Mixdown Problem in SONAR

Im having trouble mixing down everything in SONAR...

I have a mix of MIDI and stereo tracks and I am trying to record all of them into one stereo track that will be my final mix. I set my sound card to record "What U Hear" and and set the new stereo audio track to record. When I press record and the music starts playing there is an echo...each note repeats itself many times. This does not happen normally unless I have an audio track set to record "What U Hear".

I am using SONAR 1.0 and I have an SB Live in Windows 2000 Professional. This problem started occuring ever since I checked "Always use MME interface, even when WDM drivers are available." in the audio options menu in SONAR. When I did not have that checked I could only record audio tracks as mono tracks.

If anyone could help me with this problem, I would greatly appreciate it!

I also wanted to add that this doesnt happen in any program other that SONAR.

I set my soundcard to record "What U Hear", opened SONAR and opened Sound Forge 5. I started recording "What U Hear" in Sound Forge and then played the song in SONAR and there was no wierd echo, the mix came out fine.

Don't set it to "What U Hear," enableit to record the MIDI synth only to a couple of tracks of audio, and then mix down all the audio to a pair of tracks.

If I have this right, what's happening is that you are recording what's there and also piping the new track's output back into the input, a few dozen milliseconds later, and recording that, etc., etc.
 
AlChuck is absolutely right. I had experienced the same problem and I figured it out soon I heard an echo. Further, if you use WaveLab or Sound Forge and face the same problem, you now figure where it comes from.

But...I still have that problem when Im recording from a mic.

I also just tried installing the drivers for it supplied by Microsoft.

I uninstalled all the Creative drivers for the card and rebooted the my computer. The find new hardware screen poped up and i selected "Search for a suitable driver for my devcice". I put the Windows 2000 CD in so it could get the drivers off the CD. It searches the CD and says "Was not able to find a driver for this device."

Where can I find the microsoft driver for this card?

When you record from a mic, turn off the synth and line in, and turn on the Mic In. And obviously if you're listening through speakers while you record with the mic, the sound from the speakers is going to be picked up by the mic...
 
The little trick is, when you record using the Mic Input on your sound card, use headphones plugging into the speaker's Headphone Input. So you can only monitor the music and vocal from the headphones, but no music (out in the open) get into the Microphone. If you don't have a headphone input on the speaker, plug the headphones into the speaker input on the soundcard. This way will eliminate echo (feedback) you're having now.

Besides, using the Mic Input to record vocals (acoustic inst.) is not a good way. I suggest you should use the Line Input for better quality sound.
