Mixdown / Backup To Dvd cool edit pro 2.0

HI ALL
I wonder if someone could help me with two small problems
1. when i have recorded say 8 tracks and i want to mix them down there may be some tracks that I want to alter the volume, or change the pan but when I press mixdown everything is at the preset levels how do i do an old fashioned realtime mixdown that has everything ready for cd burning.

2 how do i backup sessions to move between computers or back up sessions onto dvd or cd

if these are obvious answers forgive me but i have only had cool edit 1 week cheers for any answers

i think when you do a mixdown it mixes everything at the volume and pan you have it set at in multi-track before the mixdown, you just have to make sure youre happy with it all before mixing it to a stereo track.. as far as making a backup to dvd, all you do is go to save session as and then change the destination to your dvd drive.

thanks for your quick reply

I suspected this may be the case as far as mixdown thanks anyway.
as far as backup goes I had tried as you suggested but it came up with message you are not authorised to open these files see administrator and wouldnt let me save to anything but C drive ?

In the multitrack view..

You could use the track volume & pan envelopes to have things gradually change during the mix.

If a more static jump/return in level/pan is called for, (such as a slight volume jump for a guitar solo, followed by a return to the previous level), you could use either the track envelopes, or...

You could split the audio region into seperate "blocks/clips" and then right click on the block and adjust it's volume/pan seperately from what the track controls are set for.

Burning a session onto DVD or CD would be done with your burning software, it would need to be done as a Data disk.

You need to make sure that you've saved each session into it's own folder, and that the folder contains all of the files used by the session, there is a checkbox in the "save session as" dialog to "save all files associated with this session". I have a folder on my "C" drive called "Projects", then inside that I have all of my session folders, when I start a new session, the first thing that I do is do a "save session as", and go into the project folder and create a new folder for the song, then save the session file inside that song's folder, that way everything that I record in that session will automatically be recorded into that song's session folder.

I use DVD's and CD's for backing up my session folders, I also use a couple of large external USB 2.0 hard drives so that I have multiple copies of everything that's important to me, using the external HD's is easier than burning DVD/CD's, you can just copy/paste the session folder over.

USB 2.0 flashdrives are great for carrying sessions to another computer, no more burning DVD/CD's for quick transfers for overdubbing, etc.
