I read a thread over in AudioForums.com where the poster was stating that Winamp sucked for listening to CD's to evaluate his mixes. Got me to thinking...

(I'd like to limit this discussion, if possible, to software, or PC based solutions)

What do you use to listen to your mixes?

Do you use different programs when listening to .wav .mp3 .cda?

Are there actual differences in playback qualities that are program specific? I'm aware that different mp3 codecs will produce different results, but does this also relate to what I'm using to 'check' my mixes of .wav files and .cda files?

I've heard no differences in quality/sound when playing a .wav through winamp/Cool Edit Pro/ WaveLab..

As far as listening to wave files your only your sound card's DA converters are going to impact the sound in an audible way. With MP3's the codec can definatly make a difference.
