Mix My Song!!!

I like the effect you put on the dry guitar track. Was that like a fast flange?

The Lead Vocal, Drums, and Bass seemed to mesh well in your mix.

There was a bit too much reverb overall for my tastes, and the lead guitar was a little over powering at times.

Dogman..... If you guys are doing a music festival, let me know if you need a sound bid. I run a sound company in Northern Utah (10 miles from Idaho). I have a big Midas and a Turbosound Floodlight rig that should do the trick;)
 
Well, after a long ass day in the studio, I finally had a chance to sit down and spend a few minutes on this song. Everything seemed pretty well done, but the drums were a little different than what I am used to. Not used to just 6 drum tracks:D Anyhow, I porbably should not have been mixing after 10 hours of tracking and playing drums, but here is my first attempt:D

Cool use of panning, X. I prolly shoulda done something like that with mine(not posted yet) when the mix gets all busy. Don't worry, I won't steal any ideas. ;) Snare sounds really good too. And pretty much everything else. Not sure if the bass sticks out enough for my tastes, but I'm listening on some 5" monitors right now so kind of hard to judge at the moment. Oh, one more thing: I'm guessing you have the guitars all bussed through the same compressor because when the lead guitar comes in it really ducks out the rhythm guitars. Not sure I'm a fan of that...

NY: yours was kind of opposite as far as panning; everything kind of real close to the middle. Interesting to hear the different approaches...

so here's my second try:

Lowered vox volume, and did some tweakining here and there. Also added the outro on this one. Since I really didn't know what to do with it I dediced to go nuts with it... hint: so you're lost in a desert... you could really use a ...? radio! Better than to have no outro at all I suppose.

Awesome guys...I have some catching up to do in the lsitening department.

I started a new thread in my forum, so don't post in the long "Here it is" thread that's 7 pages long. Post in the sticky thread that says "Here it is...CONTINUED". Thanx guys, this is getting good.
 
Do alot of people here enjoy mixing other peoples songs? I didn't know if it was the prizes that encourage the involvement or just the enjoyment of mixing new things.

If people would enjoy mixing my songs i would love to post the tracks in a seperate forum i was just curious about this one.
 
RAMI, i was getting too drunk to mix it, so I am giving up. Without ROnnie James Dio there to cheer me on, i couldn't get motivated! :eek:

That being said, what great fun it was trying.....
We should do more of this. As soon as I have something worth posting, I plan on doing the same!
 
@KonradG: To me, the fun really is in mixing stuff that I didn't record myself. It just helps to get a much more open view and a new perspective on things. And yes, I would mix without prizes being offered. :D After all, I am here to learn and to hone my skills and not to win a competition. Now and then, competition can be quite funny and exciting, but it's not a prerequisite IMO.

I hope it's not just the prizes, because they are really nothing special. I know I would enjoy trying to mix someone else's tune, just for the education of it.

It's nice to mix something that I didn't write/track/etc.

The experience I get is the prize...

Just finised listening to all the latest mixes....nice stuff dudes. Love to hear all teh different takes on this. I'd be pleased with any one of em...cool stuff.

I agree. The competition side motivates most of use to go above what we are used to in the realm of mixing.

For this project, you can hear the different ways people see the same material. I have experiment several ways and learned things I will use on future mixes.
