Disaster?!?!?!?!?

No, this is a disaster -

Guitar tracking is MUCH improved, but everything else went downhill IMHO.......... :(

I was talking about my mixing. :D

The guitars sound pretty good to me. Much improved. The drums, bass, and vox aren't nearly as strong. In fact, don't seem to be as good as your previous stuff, but maybe I'm mis-remembering. I dunno..........

Do you mean by how it was performed or how "loud" they are?

If you're talking about the guitars, performance and sound wise. It sounds like you did something way different. Maybe I'm just not remembering correctly.......

I have been mic'ing the guitars different and getting better at that.

And I was talking about the other instruments as far not sounding strong? What do you think I did wrong? I am finally getting a pop filter for the vocals (lol). And... I'm not sure what to do better about the bass. And do the drums sound sloppy or anything? Or is the recording techniques I used poor?

I'm working on the song now, I really enjoy it.

Where the drums recorded to a click? If so, what bpm?

Recorded at 90bpm, 4/4 time signature for the first part of the song then we switched over to 6/8 signature.

hey NL5 any way I could get the ending part of the song on the lead track turned down?

also how do you get the freaking drums to sound like that?

Sure. I'll probably tweak a few other things as well.

Better?

There are a lot of avoidable problems with the tracks. At least one of the vox tracks has a conversation going on in the background that is 90% as loud as the vocal take......... and it continues right thru the take....... :(

how does this mix of mine sound guys? i'm doing it in headphones so i'm trying to make sure the bass freqs stay controlled. but how does everything else sound? i am really trying to get better at this. thanks for constructive criticism :)

what i want to know is how to get the kick sounding like NL5s ???

Well, I could say it's just pure mixing genius, but in this instance it's pretty much just drumagog....... :D

any tips on recording toms as far as mic placement goes?

Take a pic of how you have them mic'd. The biggest thing is the tuning, the drummer, and the room........Most drummers DON"T know how to tune their drums.

The best I can do is show you some mspaint art.

picture

one of the floor toms i tried mic'ing it by pointing the mic right at the head of the drum on the outer edge.

I'd angle the mic down a bit more to help eliminate some of the snare/hat bleed, as well as putting some more "meat" into the sound.

Now, you tell me about you guitar recording. I am really digging the guitar sound! :D

Treble at 2 oclock, mids at 12 oclock, bass at 10 oclock. also was turned up a little loud to get good tone out of it. also i turned the gain down a few ticks short of what i thought sounded good.

Mic's blended together in the takes I downloaded? What amp? What guitar? Is that second one an MXL?
