Sorry 10 days behing 'The Great Fire-Wall of China' has made accessing and uploading all to difficult so sorry for the delay on this one. BTW anyone who knows of a red guard friendly proxy server for next time I cross the boarder pls let me know!

So here it is Dave my version of your great lyrics. I hope I have not destroyed them too much. I can now listen to all other versions and not be influenced.

This was a first for me - no click track as I just could getting the tempo/feel of it right from vs to ch at one speed. Hardly any compression on vocals which I think even with micro-automation peak a couple of times. A few changes to original lyrics just to scan them with music. Had a lot of fun with 3 keys of harp as well. Also turn V3 into a Bridge - well there has to be a Bridge in Mississippi!

Hope you like.

Burt

I see that you've been extrememly busy commeting on a whole heap of stuff here.

You may have noticed that I have not been able to make many useful coments on assorted songs because I'm having problems with soundclick. I get between 10 and 12 seconds before it just comes to a stop.

So I got your plaintiff harp intro to your version . . . leaving me agonizingly aching to hear the rest.

I will have to try again once I figure out what my problem is.

Stay tuned!

Oh my!

Now THAT is what I call steamy....nice, lazy feel to the song, and the harp chugging away in the background is like a train heard in the distance.

The only thing that slightly bothered me: The snare seemed to be just slightly behind the beat. Maybe intentional, and like I say, not a big deal.

Excellent treatment.

Cheers Strat, snare part intentional (there are also some velocity problems with the Midi on it) I listen and realised that it drag abit (foot does as well out of th first Ch) but kind of liked it in the Vs, but it seems to hook in Ch, I hope!

GZ I thought Aus just launched the biggest Broadband (as opposed to Boagsband) infra-structure of all time. Send and email to Kev and tell him to start with your place! Have you got cookies and pop ups enabled?

I know what it is like though - no rhyme or reason to Chinese 'failure to connect' (blocking) I could get on to HRF and Facebook but then could not comment - I assume that it is therefore OK by ChinoGovt to watch and copy, just not interact! Still did a search on Lhasa and just got travel agents.

Strat1958 says "now THAT is what I call steamy....nice, lazy feel to the song", and I think that description is spot on.

I really like the extended "mississippi" . . . those loooong held notes . . . excellent! I also like the quirky chord progression in the bridge.

As I was listening, I was reminded very much of The Doors.

This song is a great vehicle for Upfiddler's lyrics. It is interesting how one set of lyrics can generate three different treatments, yet with each still conveying that sense of lazy heat.

Strat1958 also mentioned being bothered a bit by the snare timing, and I found the same thing. There is a timing tension there, and it would be interesting to hear the track without the kit. My sense is that the song was recorded using a click, but in the end, the instrumentation was pushing towards a rhythmic feel that was a bit more dynamic.

As for my broadband . . . it turns out I'd used up my downloads for the month and had been shaped to dial-up speed. All is well now.

Another Adopted Child

Burt - Thanks so much for adopting one of my little kids! It is apparent that you and Geck are both better parents than I. I like the tight sound of the snare and the timing issue isn't a big deal with me considering your treatment of this song. I prefer your melody to both geck's and mine. I prefer geck's musical treatment to either yours or mine. Nice work by all.

My pleasure. Great lyrics I think will always bring out the best in composser.

Your voice & the recording of it are a TREAT!
Sounds a little like a well record early Nilsson.
Nice blues harping too.
Too much snare though!
Sounds like I ought to have a plate of gumbo & rice with a cold, cold beer.
Our great broadband - well eventually (another 8 year plan) - at present it'd be best described as narrow/intermittent/ironageband. $80 bucks a month for 12 gig and a connection just fast enough to get one interested before stuttering and disconnection messages appear - and it appears I'm one of the lucky ones!
Mississippi - in my water
Mississippi - in beer
Mississippi - took my daughter
Then brought her right back here!
