Putting homestudio back together after few years out of it - lots of changes and a lot of my old stuff out of date...

I have PC laptop, Sonar, echo layla24 box and sound card for basic set up. I have a bunch of 'older' rack effects, roland jv 880 keys, percussion, vocals, guitar and condenser and dynamic mikes.

What else is missing besides a decent mic preamp (suggestions for med - good quality) and mixer (suggestions anyone for small 4 to 6 ins mixer) and monitors (active or passive? nearfield?).

Cheers

You might want to check out Yorkville monitors and perhaps Tannoy. I use passive and get by fine (not that I wouldn't like active. As far as small mixers go Mackie and Soundcraft have some decent ones. I personaly would not buy one that did not have sweepable mids. The only really cheap mixers I have seen with sweepable mids is a Berhinger. I would personaly step up to a larger Mackie to get the sweepable mid.

A decent mackie board can serve as your mic pre for now

What type of mic's do you have??

As far as I can tell you have to go to a 16 channel to get the sweepable mids.

Can you tell I like sweepable mids:D

Good Luck..
