Hi,

I've been using an Onkyo 2500MkII ( I know, never use a stereo for a studio monitor) with Tannoy Reveal's. My left channel on the Onkyo has been fading and is now breaking up so it looks like the end for now since I would go nuts waiting the month it takes to get it back from the shop.

I need to go down in the next couple of days and make a purchase... but what?

Recommendations please! Something that will fit well with what I have but with maybe some room to upgrade in the future. I'm afraid that I'll waste my time with something that I won't be as pleased with as my beautiful dinosaur.

Thanks,

Rusty K

Hafler...whats your budget?....

also, what do you mean by room for upgrade?....

Hey gidge,

Well I thought the Tannoy Reveals would give a hint. Maybe an amp that was better than my Reveals so that I could upgrade my speakers in the future. Budget is important but I want to be happy and get quality results.

I have an Alesis RA300 and like it very much. I have Monitor 1 mkII and I think I have learned to make pretty good mixes. I would suggest it as it is only $279 and very clean.

I can turn both sides all the way up without hearing any hiss caused by the amp. The later you can upgrade to some Event 20/20 passives or maybe Yorkville passives.

the Reveals are really nice monitors.....

Id suggest a Hafler TA1600 amp, or if you wanna bone up more $$$, the Hafler P series is nice.....

Thanks guys,

I'm demoing an Alesis RA150. It's about the only thing my fav guitar store had but I didn't have to give them any money so I'll give it a listen.

Gidge, the Reveals are working great I'm only going by some other peoples opinions about them and their price. I usually try to find moderately priced quality. I'm not sure that's always the best approach but at least your mistakes aren't too financially painful and you don't have to wait so long to get what you need to start working.

Also If I really noticed a definite difference in the audio quality I'd spring for more $. The Catch 22 is would I be able to hear the diff on the Reveals?

I put my Onkyo in the shop as well. It's just too nice a piece of equipment to let go of until they tell me they can't find the parts. Actually the power issues are the easiest to solve on the old one's they tell me (parts availability). The best thing about it is that it was given to me in the first place. Nice gift!

I also checked out Mars liquidation but they only had one Alesis RA100 floor model left. I need the 75 watts per side....right?

Update!

Hey,

What's been going on with this website? I've had a devil of a time getting it to download.

FYI the Alesis RA150 is going to do just fine. Sounds pretty sweet to my ear and I snagged it for $220, I think that's a pretty good price.

I could keep looking but I believe this setup is ok.

Thanks for your input.
