Hi, I'm new here! I suppose that's obvious, though.

Anyway, I was wondering about miking drums; specifically where to position
the mics above the drums. What kind kind of mics should I use? And I only want to use 2, by the way.

Not enough, you say? Joe Morello's drums on the album Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet were miked with only two microphones...and it's one of the greatest jazz recordings of all time.

go check out the drum forum of the bbs search around it a bit and you'll find lots of useful info about what mics and micing techniques.

Just so long as you understand that circumventing the laws of physics ain't done on the nickel.

Sure did -- and the mics/signal chain used to capture that recording was probably worth more than your annual income.........

2 excellent mics in the hands of great engineers in a great-sounding studio will give excellent results.

2 SM57s thru a $99 mic pre in the hands of a novice and you'd have to stretch to get even mediocre results.

It would be helpful to at least know what mics you have available.

Perhaps I know more things than everyone thinks I know ... What I don't know about is what microphones to use for what applications.

That post alone just about ruined any credibility you hoped to build here.

Nowing enough to build a pre means diddly squat..................there are many who have done that. Bestowing the title of "tubehead" and "audiophool" upon yourself ..........well that just about says it all.

None. Well...I have a sennheiser E835, but I'm not about to use it for micing drums . I don't even have drums to mic...I only wanted to know for reference purposes.
