Hi,

This is a song Gidge wrote.

Sam and I collaborated on the music.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to Gidge for allowing us to record his fine work, and to everyone who contributed their input,it was invaluable.
And a special thanks to Sam for all his hard work and patience.

It's called- Iv'e Got You My Son

Thanks,
Pete

ahhh finally listening to stuff in a good room (and on monitors, not MM speakers ;)) ...

Very heartfelt, nice song. Nearly flawless mix. Some bgv notes are louder than others... kind of a nice, quiet production. The drum solo-lead in (to the verse) thing might sound out of place to some people  but there's your creative license :) Good job, guys. Wait till Axe4 hears this! ;)

BTW does this mean Sam found God? :D

I'll jump in with some comments. I think the balances are pretty decent. Bass could maybe come up a smidgen. I still hear the "foot stompin' sound" at the beginning. What I actually liked about Sam's contribution best was the singing. The melodica sound in the beginning, and other places was a fair choice, and I think something a little more unique would do better. The laid back melody of it is fine, just a wrong patch choice, imo. Something like a real flute would fit much better, me thinks....or another acoustic style instrument. Muze, I think this brings your stuff up a couple levels. This is very nice, and your singing is as good as the ac. gtr you're comping...very finished and performed well. Gidge...nice song too. I gotta jump Sams stuff again too about his triplet flavored rolls...shame, shame shame. Yeah...they're in time, but you snoowzer!!!! I don't want my attention quickly flipped to some damn triplets!! (Sam, we're still buds...I'm just saving WATfZ the trouble ...oops....)

I think the production is very good too. Things come in and out where they are supposed to. Muze...maybe you could add another harmony...or double Sam's a little lower in volume. Since you sing the lead, a lower volume(than Sam's) bg vocal 'might' fit. ..but it's not necessary.

You guys get the A for effort award.
Sam gets the A for resisting the Ebow addiction!!
Gidge gets a A for stuff that too joes that never met, did a great job on.

Overall final product...B ....maybe B+

oh yeah...killer lyrics. It doesn't just hit you with "love Jesus, love God" kinda stuff all over the place. Very creative use of saying something.

(I'm still working on the drum rolls...the 2nd one, maybe...) yeah Chad...you hit the nail on the head with your observation.

Well, I'll be damn...........
.......talk about hearing a song grow right in front of you. This is cool fellas. ......and dude.......check out those harmonies!!! Man, I dont know where to begin. Ive been following muze's song since he put up the first post, and ive gotta say that im impressed with where its gone.

First off, lets talk instrumentation........

aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhHHHHHHHH.......bass! This song is sooo much bigger with it. Clean, simple, and full..... like the song requires.

The choice of synth tones was a good one too. I liked the patch choice . Accents without becoming to imposing.

The only thing that stuck out to me a little bit was the perc./acoustic guit clash at 1:38...... but it wasnt offensive.

NOW......lets talk about the "real" song improvement............
Sam........ I heard those harmonies.....sniff.......and i wanted to cry...................sniff sniff. :D GREAT job. .....and a well chosen melody. You slid right in behind Muze. So, whats up then........ I didnt hear any mid probs... no bullhorn effect ........ just clean vocs...... and dude, You be a singin mother*&(*&&&*!!! Very nice tone man..... So, on the next Sam original, lets hear that voice man......step up, you dont need no steenking shit on your voice. The little bit of verb and compression that you have on your voice here shines man. .........sniff

Muze, youve done a great thing here man. When I read the post and saw that you and Sam were collabin on this song, I was like.........huh? .....but it really worked out well. Sam brought you width and texture,
and you tought that grumpy fuck how to smile.
:D :D :D :D :D

Fantastic job fellas............ Great song! G

Very cool collab, I like the way the acoustic and lead voc are still out front. Dug the keys too, kind of a G. Hudson feel. Harmonies were good, and probably not real easy to do considering the different but cool chord progression.
I dig the song, too...and that's coming from a heathen derelict. :D
Great job, guys!

Mark

a few quick comments

Gidge, you wrote a cool tune.. muze, you sang and played it well.. thanks for letting me be a part of it.. Let me know when you want to do another..

this tune to me, is a song from a father to his son.. that's what I get out of it.. that's why I liked it as soon as I heard it.. and I don't have any kids, but I have a Dad. :)

thanks for the comments about my end.. As far as the drums, I thought it sounded good at the time.. I thought I was going for a Zeppelin feel  :D

I did all my parts in one day.. started with drums, then bass, keys, vocals.. That's my excuse for the raspyness in the vocals. :D I'm sure I could have sang it better, but it was so spontanious that I couldn't look past the newness to judge the vocal.. I tried to keep the vocal dry for once.. Maybe too dry though. Now that it's a day later, I hear things that could have been a lot better..

As long as Pete and Mike don't think I ruined it, I'm cool with it.. :D

thanks for the comments about my end! :D

Ed. note - my next tune will be the heaviest song this clinic will allow.:)

Sam, you already got my thoughts on this, but for the others...VERY NICE JOB! great song!

Sam,

Far from ruining it.I think you made it dude!
But you know me,I always up for another take!:D
You improved this song tenfold,thanks.
I'm definatly up for another!

Can't wait to do another.

SLuiCe,
Glad you liked it,thanks!

Thanks again,
Pete

Hey Pete,
I hope i didnt seem to Sam-heavy with the praise. This was your conception, and youve done a great job. ............But you already know that:) g

Hey Guys,

Nice full collab peoples!!!

Not too much to say in the way of critique but, here's what my ears said to me.

The lead vox and back up vox really compliment each other nicely.
They blended in a most pleasing manner:) .

That drum fill around 1:36ish was kinda much. I listened twice and it stuck out both times. Not in a timing way or outlandish way but, I noticed it both times so I thought I'd mention it. Maybe too busy? What do I know about drums? NOTHING.

The Rhythm git on the right should come up in the mix or closer to center in the pan. It was a tad "out in the field". I could be wrong on this but, like I said, I'm just repeating what my ears told me.:)

enough of the nit picks........I was happy to hear such a clean and organized piece of work considering the tri-horned bull of a collab it was. Hell, minus the collab, this is a great song. Nice acoustic git image BTW!!

Peace out.....and in and around,

Theron.

Gidge, Muzeman and SABBATH all have to congratulated...

on this fine piece of work! That's really nice, well done, and I'm very much impressed! All that, on a long-distance collaboration!

I'm really impressed. It came out great!;)

One more thing.

I just got done reading the thread of comments, critiques and commitments after I replied.

I read a couple notes about the bass and it occured to me that I didn't remember the bass. I remember it being a part of the song but, I don't remember it.........I recall its feel.

Not to get all heady about it but, this struck me as a very good sign in the mix. I've listened for enjoyment and I've spun it with an acute ear. Some things still escape me and alot of times, such is the case with the bass, that is a good thing in a mix.

OK...All done with my plastic prose.

Again,
More than solid endevour guys,

;) :o

Viva la collaboratione!!!!!

Hell yeah! Loving collaborations as I do, it's great to hear this.

Sam.............very nice harmony work. And the keys and bass were just what the song required. i didn't really have a problem with the drums myself, they were a little busy but it worked well enough for me. That kind of thing is a creative decision.

Muzeman, sir,.....nice vocals and especially good guitar playing. I enjoyed this. Let's have the details of how ya'll got all the parts together on the same recording please.

Gidge.................good tune man. Good lyrics....thoughtful and heartfelt. It helps to have good material and you definitely gave them something to work with. When you coming out to see me play BTW?

You guys did a good job on this and it's cool to see more people getting the collaboration bug.

Now this is what it's all about...musicians of very DIFFERENT backgrounds getting together(in cyberspace of course) and jammin to see what will come of it....I've followed this song from it's first incarnation it it has developed a good bit.I think the keyboard part(was that a trumpet?)would sound a little better for this tune if it was a flute( or something softer) ....maybe even a light organ laying down the bottom underneath the guitar parts.......the drums could be a little tamer:eek: but I know this was all in fun and thrown together on different machines miles apart, and for those reasons alone I think it's a top notch effort.

The harmonies were right on sam and it was good to finally hear your natural voice stripped naked of any effects. You have a really good natural voice and I dig singers who can find and hit harmonies.Harmony singing was one of the funnest things about being in a band to me......of course it's only fun when you have people who can find the harmonies as equally as you can yourself . :D

Great singing Muze.

Nice job fellas.:)

This is a good collaboration. Nobody overtakes the song, but everybody seems to work as a whole very well. Sam's background vocals are very good. They're REALLY not ruining the song. The drums have just the right sound for the song. I guess I got distracted by that drum fill also. I was thinking it was missing some kick drums there, but I'm not sure. I guess the kick was pretty low on the mix anyway, and it's cool by me after a few listens. The vocals are good, the acoustic guitars are good, the drumming is good. And the keys are good too. All stuff seems to work very well in balance in this song. I didn't even realise this was a "god song". I guess I don't pay attention (or don't understand) to the lyrics that much.

wow.. thats fantastic guys!

A very strong part of the song is harmanies... they're nicely done.

Thats hard to believe it was all done separatly.

Nice job guys!

Real pretty song. Nice chord structure. Good playing. Lyrics with more than a bit of thought. The keyboard part sounded real smooth and I thought complimented the rest of the song perfectly.

The harmonies were very nice for the most part. The voices blended nice, but at times the smoothness varied (at least in the first chorus). There was a spot or two where the harmony vocals didn't sync with the lead (e.g., :44 and :51). The second chrous was much tighter and sounded smoother.

Again, real pretty.

Sam - does this suggest a musical shift for you? Are you coming out of the darkness?

oh that was pretty cool. i really like the guitar playing and harmonies.

i agree with disagreeing with the flute sound. the part was nice, but i didn't like the patch. the backing vocals could use some stereo spread also imo.

nice work.
