Someone tell me, or give me a link to a site, what is MIDI? How can I use it, what it does, what it is, what I can do with it in my computer-based system w/ Cubase, and how I can use it with the MIDI ins/outs on my Behringer multi-effects processor???? thanks

Thanks, I'll be on my computer for a year getting all this.

To cut to the chase-

The only advantage you will have with your effects unit is it allows you to change the patches and maybe have some real-time contol over effects parameters via a midi controller like a keyboard, midi mixer or sequencer. You can also use it store and edit patches if there is a program that supports your effects processor.

That's not a big deal unless you are doing really complex effects programs and changes on the fly.

To use it with Cubase you need a midi keyboard/sound module and it will record the notes you play but not the audio. It's usefull for editing your performance before you record the audio.

I have a similar question, I have the TC Electronics M-one XL. What I want to do is connect it to my laptop computer so that I can change effects patches on the laptop rather than using the program wheel on the effects unit to scroll through 200 presets. This would be a great help as I am using it Live. Can you give me some advice on how to make this connection, what type of MIDI interface and what software???

Any help is appreciated

Yo, woodzmo...
You're gonna need MIDI interface for your Laptop. Most of laptop MIDI interface connected to USB, Paralell, or serial port.

To change the setting, you'll need software that can send and recieve realtime system exclusive message.

Can you suggest an interface and what software?
If at all possible I would like them to be Win95 compatible as I don't feel like chancing the Win98 upgrade on my old laptop.
The laptop does have a USB port so I'm good to go that route.

Well, it's kinda hard to tell you which one will be the best working USB interface, since you use Win95. I could be wrong, but USB is rather "new" technology, at least for audio working environment, so I wouldn't guarantee if one will work the best under Win95. But sure you can use Serial / Parallel MIDI interfaces with Win95. Just to put a name...

...and many others. You can Google for Parallel or Serial MIDI interfaces.

What about some MIDI software to control my effects patches, can you point me in that direction too? The Win95 thing is not a stopping point for me, if I have to I will do the 98 upgrade.

Thanks for your input
