Midi velocity problem

Hi all,

I've just taken the plunge and bought an M-Audio card to replace my audigy, however I'm still experiencing a previous midi problem.

So rather than blaming creative drivers I'm starting to think it's just my complete misunderstanding of midi.

I'm mainly an audio musician, but am fascinated at the possibilities of vsti, so have been tinkering.

My only issue is inputing through an external midi keyboard.

I have an ORLA DMK7 that was given to me a while back and (although it isn't exactly state of the art) it works (sometimes) as I want.
...until recently.....

As I said I thought this was all a driver issue, but now I know it wasn't I'm figuring it's the way I've set the keyboard up to send midi information.
I don't know if anyone knows this specific keyboard, but in general can some one advise me?

Basically when inputing midi from the keyboard I'm getting what looks like only velocity information in the midi part (i.e. vertical lines rather than horizontal note data), but when I play back there is no sound and double clicking on the part shows nothing at all in the midi editor.

However I can go in to the editor and draw notes that will play back through the selected vsti, so no problems there.

When I press the keys on the keyboard levels are indicated in the inspector mixer and transport bar, so......

I guess that some of the midi information isn't being sent (or received correctly).

The thing is, it used to work (sometimes)and I don't know if I've accidentally switched something on/off in cubase or if it's on the keyboard.

Can anyone please help?

Many thanks in advance.

Oops, nearly forgot - I'm running XP Pro on a P4 1.7 G machine with 1025Mb RAM.
And SX2.2(latest update - thought it might help, but no change).

when you hit a key on your keyboard is there any sound coming through or is it just on playback that you dont hear anyhthing? which plugin instrument are you using? also have you made sure that when you select midi 01 track for example that to the left it says IN: m-audio in(or something like that) OUT: vst instrument(which ever one it is)?

I'm using Hypersonic which plays fine when I draw in note, but when I record with the keyboard there is no sound when recording or playback.
The ins and outs are setup properly as well......

Have you "record enabled" the track before starting to record?

I thought this might help clarify things a bit, so I've put a couple of screenshots of the results of recording from the keyboard as seen in the arrange page and the list editor at http://www.craigtduncan.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Cubase.html
If anyone has the time, maybe you could have a look, as the list editor is new to me and I don't really understand what it means.

Cheers again.
