Midi tracks velocity/volume changes

I am running ProTools LE with an Akai S3000 sampler. The problem I am getting is that say I put 2 different toms on the same channel (Midi), when I go into the mix to reduce the volume of one of them, the other one reduces accordingly.

Is there a way in which I can change the volume of one of the tracks without affecting the other tracks on the same channel?

Change the velocity of the individual notes instead of the track volume. Most sequencers will alow you to select just one note on a staff (say, every C1 on a single track) and apply an edit to all of them. Select just the notes of the tom you want to lower, and scale the note velocities down.
