does anyone know the best way to convert midi to wav???? i.e stand alone program?? im using cubase and theres no great way to do it and most of the stand alone programs render the midi files low and full of hiss...any suggestions???

You can't "convert" MIDI to WAV... you can only render it by having something play the MIDI messages into the audio stream, either by recording it in real-time or by some software process.

Cubase must have a simple way to do this or no one would buy it.

if you get stuck. hitsquad.com if i remember has some midi to wave
conversion software. i tried one once but it didnt impress me.
but maybe things have changed. if you get really really stuck you could always solo the track play it out through sound card line out into a fresh soundcard line input might work if you have a multi input soundcard.
but be carefull of feedback issues.
just an idea.

Band in the Box, from PG Music, has a very effective WAV rendering process from MIDI. You can do it for the song as a whole, or by instrument.

glad you said that ed. i was tempted..but i dont know frankly how good it is being i'm mainly a powertracks user. what is your opinion on sensitive instruments like flute in biab ??

midi to wave

for simple stuff i play the midi on windows media player and redirect the soundard waveout to the wavein and record it with audacity. there is a program called MIDI2WAV but it renders the sounds in software and changes the sound a bit. free demo on hitsquad.com  :p ;)

yes, these are all good ideas. i find that most of those "converters" are pretty bad, they tend to either alter the sound or add air to the rendering. multi sound card really is the best sollution. im just routing it all thru cubase and picking my inputs and outputs and them mixing down to a seperate track. midi has been around since god knows when you figure there would be a better way to render it.
