midi to laptop connection

Hi

As if you couldn't tell i'm new at this. I have a Dell latitude laptop,It doesn't have a joystick or midi port so I need to know what I can use and where I can purchase this adapter piece.

Your Dell Latitude has USB 2.0 ports -- that would be where you would plug in one of these:

You can also find some from companies like Edirol and I'm sure others, that are MUCH cheaper. Depends on how much midi ins/outs/thrus you'd need. I have an Edirol with a simple in and out that I probably paid $20 for, or so. I don't actually use it, since I got my external sound card some time ago. Since I don't use too much midi, what is posted above would be way more than I'd need, I think. But, you might!
