MIDI Sustain

I'm wondering if there's any way to hook a sustain pedal up to a controller that only has a MIDI out. As far as I can tell, it seems like something that would be theoretical doable but know of no such product.

One way, though not real cheap is to use MIDI Solutions Products

Their Footswitch controller along with their MIDI merger would do that, but that's $200 plus you need a pedal.
I have one of these:

It's a kit that would do what you're asking, cost $70 after shipping, but you need a bit of electronics background and to make it in a case. You also need an ac adapter for it - I found one that worked. The Doepfer card is good because it allows you to add 4 controllers and a switch like a sustain pedal.
An alternative would be another keyboard that has a MIDI in and through and use the pedal attached to that but have it merged with your first keyboard.

Not sure what you are asking. A sustain pedal is just a switch which tells the controller that it is either on or off and it is almost always just a 1/4" TS plug. Just about every controller has a footswitch input
