 As a newbie to MIDI and computer based sequencers (I am using Cubase LE that came with my Presonus Firebox) I would really really appreciate it if someone could help me.... I have a problem getting an Alesis Sr16 and the Cubase Metronome in sync. Can anyone help me to get them in sync please... I have tried really hard to learn from my manuals but just can't get it.

From what I think I understand, either the LE or the Alesis has to become the Master "clock" and then send messages to the metronome in the other slave.

I have tried using what logic my brain posesses to get to grips with the Midi INs and OUTs and Clock IN and OUT settings on the SR16 but I cannot seem to get it right and my dreams of doing some recording of my music are, well, frustratingly close yet still on the far horizon..

I would be indebted to anyone who can help me out.

Thanks

Dave

Look for the sync setup in Cubase (it has to be the master) and find the midi port that the SR is connected to, make sure you are sending midi clock (not MTC) to that channel. That should be it. Put the SR in slave mode and it should start when you hit play in cubase

Thanks.. I'll give it a go!!

Thanks for the help Altitude909. I will try it out tomorrow (I live in Japan and it is now the small hours and am about to shut it all down), but I wanted to post to say thanks first!!! :)

I think its connected but I cannot monitor it!

Thanks for the help; I found the SYNC mode in Cubase and set up the Midi Clock.

I think it is working OK because I can see (via the SR's display) the SR is accepting the signals from Cubase and hear the SR16 responding to Cubase (through the SR's headphone socket though!!!).

I can record onto a MIDI track in Cubase too... and if I open the Midi Key Editor, all the MIDI signals are there.. If I change the MIDI Out for that Midi track to the LE's LM7 VST Drum machine, the recorded date from the SR drives the LM7, so it must be recording. Many thanks.

However, I can not hear anything back through the monitors or headphones (connected to the Presonus Firebox) for that Midi track if I set the MIDI Out to the SR16, no matter how hard I try. I am sure that as a complete Newbie I am probable missing something really fundamental and basic, but I don't know what.....

I have The SR 16 installed as a MIDI device on Channel 3, have set up the SR to send data on channel 3, Drum In OFF, Drum Out ON, Clock In ON, Clock out OFF and MidiThru OFF. I have set up the MIDI track as follows: MIDI In is the Presonus (the SR is connected into the back of the Presonus bia MIDI), MIDI Out is the SR16, on Channel 3.

Can anyone offer any advice??

Thanks

Thanks!!!
I knew it should be something simple, yet I had no idea what.

Thanks for the help!!
