A MIDI sequencer doesn't record actual sounds;it records different types of MIDI messages that tell MIDI devices when and how to play the sounds that they contain,so the answer to your 1st question is no.Your drum machine should hook up via it's MIDI in and out jacks to the corresponding in/outs on the sequencer.Since you didn't specify whether you are talking about a hardware system or software,in hardware you could get a box like Boss BR-8 and record your guitar/bass on it while syncing the drum machine to it via MIDI clock.In software,all these tasks could be done with a program like Cakewalk 9.Cheers!

Don't forget that there's a difference between audio signals and midi-signals. there to completely different things. Most sequenser do support audio, but the approach is completely different than midi sequensing itself.
But today it is possible to transform audio signals like a guitar to midi signals. There are complete midi-guitars (parker has one), but you can also put a special device next to your pick-ups to transform it to midi. The problems are off course: quite expensive, and also in the lower frequenties you can have phase problems...
