midi recording

You need to buy some kind of digital recorder if you want to record CDs. There are PC-based digital recording systems and also stand alone recorders sort of like tape recorders but that record directly to a CD or mini disk.

MIDI is not used for recording sound. MIDI transmits data only - e.g. note on/off, velocity etc.

david. if you have an analog out from it like a headphone or line out,
you could record on a pc using something like audacity (google for it)
or cool edit 96. then clean it up and save it on the pc , and
use something like nero that i use to burn a cd.
also there are various more free programs floating around at hitsquad.com.
peace.

change it to recording from a keyboard

Many thanks
I learned something about Midi !
Next dumb question: The Clavinova has two headphone jacks for sterio I guess I just use one?
Is there an existing cable from it to PC audio input or do I fudge one?
It seems as if it is large jack to tiny one so would it be tip to tip and body to body straight one to one?
I sure appreciate the help.
David :o

I have not looked at the jacks on a Clavinova in a long time - but I am almost certain that in addition to stereo headphone outs the are two seperate outs for mono/stereo send.

A decent computer sound card should have 2 inputs for stereo 0 but if you only have a T/R/S single stereo input (like a headphone jack) you can buy a converter.

Candidily, you can buy converters for just about any combination.

Yup, check your local Radioshack. Better yet, start saving those pennies and invest in a nice dedicated recording card (like a Delta 44 or something), which features 1/4" inputs to match those on your synth. You can get one pretty cheap these days.

david. you can buy a chord with quarter inch stereo male jack on one end and stereo mini male jack on the other end. assuming line in of your pc is mini jack. try shack , dollar stores, and electronics outlets or on line.
peace.
