Anyone have any experience or tips for running midi through a guitar FX processor so it sounds like a guitar???? By midi, I mean midi triggered samples. To date there has never been a convincing destorted guitar VSTi or trigger based package but the clean sounds can be pretty amazing (East West Samples and various Giga packs). My reasoning is that if a piece of midi can be ran through one of these packages to sound convining then surely it could be treated like a re-amped guitar?

Your reasoning is a little bit off, cowboy. :D

There's a plugin from reFX called 'Slayer' which the developers have worked long and hard to perfect. If it was as simple as running distorted guitar samples thru a distortion box, either directly or by reamping, they would have had an easy time making this into THE distorted guitar plugin. If you've heard this plugin and it's very good attempt at a convincing distorted guitar sound you know that it's just right for some songs --- and not just the metal stuff that Slayer are known for --- but not for everything.

I don't want to discourage you from trying this on your own. You may get some very good results and by all means if it's worth the effort to you to either have a guitarist play something that you can process or, if you're so inclined, play it yourself. There are many, many amp simulation plugins available here.
