Midi question

Steve, what is exactly your goal here? I mean, are you thinking of , say, create some drum sequence with that "ez" software, then "play it back" and record it from your computer to tape? and then overdub from there?
Or are thinking of "playing" that software with trigger-pads through trigger-to-midi "module" and maybe record it then to tape?
Or something else?
I am just trying to figure out what exactly you are trying/planing to do.

Hey Mike,

I was thinking about using the computer as a drum machine/module with the ezdrummer software and go from the computer to tape through a decent line level output. So I also need a good line level out of the computer. Which of course my laptop doesn't have. It only has headphone output.

I'm guessing it would be just a midi in interface to usb for the input but then how do you get back out?

Is there something that does both?

The last thing I want to do is go to Guitar center or any music store and ask. :D

uh, I see
sounds like you need USB audio/midi interface.
Get Tascam US-144 or something similar, it's pretty cheap, I think :)

If your laptop doesn't have a proper line out, you could always add an external USB sound card breakout box that would in effect replace the internal sound card on the laptop and then give you all of the proper line in and outs as well as possible decent quality Mic inputs for your laptop! I bought a cheapie 40 dollar one of those from Soundblaster and use it on my laptop for remote recordings and it works quite nicely! Jamfest 8 in Kentucky was recorded with that set up! That box also has proper line level outs to feed your drum tracks on the laptop into your analog recording set up.

Cheers! :)

Thanks Mike. I'm sure originally I made it sound more confusing than it is. I look that up.

Oops!

Didn't see you posting up there! :)

A US144 should do the trick too!

Cheers! :)
